Well, it’s that time of year again and you know, we just love presenting at the Lovestuck Bridal Show every year. It’s always an opulent event and such a fun show for brides to attend, as there are always so many fabulous and helpful vendors to chat with and great ideas to pick up! New for this is that Justin was asked to present the Photography 101 workshop, so certainly do check it out! We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces, so do pop by our booth and say ‘Hi”!

We do still have a couple tickets left, so please let us know if you would like one, otherwise you can get tickets online or at the door! See you there! :-)

So, we were tickled pink when Justin recently found out that his agency sold one of his images to National Geographic!! Woohoo!

It was printed in the May/June issue of National Geographic Traveler with 3/4 of a Million copies in circulation.  I’m so proud! :-) What makes it even sweeter, is that the image that they bought is one of the very few images that Justin’s agency has with me as the subject.  Justin has images in publication all around the world, but this one  is so much more special. Yep, that’s right- little ol’ me is a ‘cultural observation’ in National Geographic magazine. I think I’m still blushing! To top it all off, is the fact that the photograph was taken early one morning while we were on a train in Northern India traveling to Varanasi, during a really incredible and beautiful trip that we shared together.

Nice work Justin!

We recently received our Spring 2010 copy of Real Weddings Magazine and we were so pleased to see that not one, but TWO of our couples were selected for the playful ‘Marry Me!’ engagement section of the magazine! I always like looking at this part of of each issue as it’s always great to see couples having a great time and knowing that they have their exciting wedding ahead of them this wedding season. We photographed Samineh + Reza in January while they were in Vancouver (warming up) on a visit from snowy Yellowknife and we captured Joanne and Tony giggling away despite the cool Spring day in February. We are really looking forward to their wedding days later this summer.

And for those lucky gals that are meeting with us in the next little while, we’ll have this new issue to give you!

Real Weddings Spring 2010 hyperfocus photography featured

It’s a familiar question for photographers to hear, what’s your style?  One of the hot catchwords right now is photojournalism or reportage.  Whilst Photojournalism is the predominant style of coverage that Steff and I do for our clients at hyperfocus photography, we do use other styles of photography as well.  We really like to use a variety of techniques and shooting styles to create the story, mood and atmosphere of the day that will show the viewer what the day was truly like.  But for now, lets take a look at wedding photojournalism.

The photo-journalistic style of wedding photography involves photographing a wedding day as its actually happening, capturing real moments and true emotion; the end result are images that are real and can be related to on a much deeper level versus something that is staged or set up.

Any photography that is staged, or set up by the photographer is not photojournalism (this includes staged photojournalism, which are images that are staged or set up to look photo-journalistic).  Real photojournalism is often a much more difficult style to do well than other popular styles of wedding photography; the result however is that you get a much deeper emotional connection to the images.  Nice, well composed photo-journalistic photography has been our preferred style of shooting for the last 9 years now and our clients really love it.  And we love it too! But don’t worry about missing out on anything, we still love to shoot contemporary fashion-inspired portraits, great details and family portraits.  We feel the best wedding coverage is an expertly blended mix of techniques and styles.

If you have any other questions about photographic styles or would like to book a meeting with us to see our work first hand just drop us a line or give us a call.

Thanks,

Justin
